The top seed for this year's tournament is Roger Federer, and he is the favourite to win. He is currently the Wimbledon and Champion and has won the US Open 5 times already, so it will be no surprise if he wins this time.

Another possible winner is Serbia's Novak Djokovic. He is the No. 2 seed and reigning US Open champion, though Federer beat him at Wimbledon in the semi-final this year. Federer has suggested that Novak is the main contender for the US Open.

Some commentators are also watching Andy Murray from the UK. Murray lost the Wimbledon final to Federer this year, but has been a finalist in the US Open before and also won the Olympic gold medal against Federer. He is said to be very determined to win this time - but so are they all, of course. Normally Rafael Nadal would also be near the top of the list, but he is not playing this year.

Surprises are always possible, and one sports journalist has come up with a list of possible surprise winners, starting with Bernard Tomic from Australia - you can see the article here.
