Since the beginning of the Olympic games more than a hundred years ago, Great Britain has won 10 medals in tennis. The first gold medal was won by John Pius Boland in the 1896 games. In 1900, four british won all the medals in the competition, Hugh Doherty (gold), Harold Mahoney (silver) Reggie Doherty, and Arthur Norris (both Bronze).

I would not be until 1908 that Great British tennis players won more medals, particularly Rosie Ritchie (gold), and Wilberforce Eaves (bronze), and in the indoor competition Arthur Gore, George Caridia, and Josiah Ritchie won the gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

In 1912, only one British player, Charles Dixon, won the silver medal. And it wouldn't be until the 2012 London Olympics that Andy Murray entered history of Great Britain's tennis winning Roger Federer in the final.
