The coil is intra-uterine contraceptive device, also short for IUCD.
Most of the coils are made from copper and polyethylene with the life span of 3-5 years. The failure rates of the coil is about 0.3%, so it is regarded as an effective way to prevent pregnancy.
The side effects of the coil include more painful periods with increasing blood loss, increased risk of ectopic pregnancy and pelvic inflammatory disease.
