Ronaldo has one child, a boy. His birth was announced on 3 July 2010, though it is not known if this is his exact birth date. Ronaldo's son is called Cristiano after his father. It was a big surprise when this was announced, more than 2 1/2 years ago now, as it has never been officially stated who the boy's mother is. His father has full custody and is apparently bringing him up with the help of members of his own family, especially young Cristiano's grandmother who is sometimes seen looking after him in public.
There has been a great deal of speculation as to who the mother of the boy may be - it has been said that she was paid a large sum of money to keep quiet, and even that she died soon after giving birth - but in fact nothing is known. Ronaldo is now dating again and is often seen with model Irina Shayk.
