It only just launched on 20 May, so it's too early to say if it will be better than any other networking site. At the moment there are clearly a lot of things not finished yet - for example, you can't upload photos yet as you can on Facebook, but the founders say you will soon be able to do this.

It seems to be a combination of the ideas behind Facebook and Pinterest. Like Pinterest, it puts a lot of emphasis on sharing ideas and interests - it's very much geared up to that, rather than just to chat. You can sign up to soc.l through your Facebook page and it looks as if the two are meant to work together, so there is no reason why you shouldn't use both.

It has some features that are different, such as the video party, which may be a better way to chat than the other networks. The only real way to tell how good it is is to join - you can have a look at the site here.
