Who created Star Wars Day?

It didn't officially have a creator. It started with a joke that became popular among Star Wars fans; instead of 'May the Force be with you' some fans liked to say 'May the fourth, be with you' and gradually this idea evolved, that May 4 would be the official Star Wars Day. There is now an actual celebration held in Toronto.

It's quite an old joke; even in 1979 when Margaret Thatcher was elected British Prime Minister on 4 May, the line 'May the Fourth be with you' was repeated in some newspapers on that day. In 2005 it was also translated into German after an interview with the original director, George Lucas.

There is another Star Wars Day, on 25 May. This was created by Los Angeles city council (though no single person has claimed responsibility for the idea) because the original Star Wars film came out on this date in 1977.
