David Bowie's first number 1 single in America was 'Fame' and it was co-written with former Beatle John Lennon and guitarrist Carlos Alomar.
'Fame' reached the number 1 position of the US Billboard Hot 100 in September,1975.
'Fame' was also a #1 single in Canada but in the UK it only reached #17 position.
The song was developed over a guitar riff by Carlos Alomar and it is said that Lennon's only contribution was the title and 'falsetto' choir although he was also credited as a co-author.
A new remixed version of 'Fame' was released in 1990 and was included in Bowie's compilation album ChangesBowie and in his tour 'Sound+Vision'. A promotional video of "Fame' was directed by Gus Van Sant and featured dancer Louise Lecavalier of La La Human Steps dance company.
The song has been covered in many occasions by artists such as Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Nina Hagen and Pearl Jam.
