David Bowie (b. 8th January 1947) is 5" 10.5' (1.79 cm.) tall.
David Bowie's first hit was the song 'Space Oddity' recorded in 1969.
The song talks about Major Tom, an astronaut lost in space.
Bowie wrote this song after watching the Stanley Kubrick's film '2001, A Space Odyssey'.
The BBC featured this song during the retransmission of the Apollo 11 lunar landing, and became quite popular afterwards, reaching the #5 position in the UK charts.
The character Major Tom was later 'resurrected' by Bowie in his 1980's hit "Ashes to Ashes'.
