Some friends of mine recently came back from there and it was completely peaceful. Of course that doesn't prove anything - they were in the tourist areas, and anyway the situation could obviously change quickly.
However, there are no warnings in place for foreign visitors to the Maldives and no particular areas you are advised to avoid (unlike in early 2012, when the situation was considered more serious). There has been unrest off and on for several years, and lately it has got worse in Male, the main island and capital. The army have been involved and there has been fighting; but the only official advice is to stay away from demonstrations etc, not to stay away from Male altogether; and elsewhere there is no specific warning, though travellers are warned of the possibility of a terrorist attack.
