In some countries pregnant women are advised to avoid cured meat, cold meats and smoked fish because there may be a risk of infection from the listeria bacteria. Listeria can cause serious food poisoning and is dangerous for everyone, not just pregnant women. However, it's more a question of how safe the food preparation and storage techniques are in the country where you are living. In the UK, for example, there is no official medical advice to avoid such foods as the risk of infection is very low. So to be safe, it's a good idea to look up the official medical guidelines for whichever country you are in, or ask your doctor if you are still not sure.
That said, a lot of women avoid cured meats during pregnancy just to be on the safe side, and you may wish to be extra careful. You can find out more about UK advice on eating in pregnancy here.
