The coldest temperature in North America was recorded in the tiny village of Snag, in the territory of Yukon (Canada) in the 3rd of February of 1947, when the thermometer marked -81.4°F (-63°C).
The town of Fort Selkirk, situated 180 km. northeast of Snag, claimed a new record for the coldest temperature of -85°F (-65°C), but this one could not be verified.
