This is a new series expected to be shown by the BBC in 2015. It is a remake of the hugely popular 1970s series, which itself was based on a series of novels by Winston Graham. The first Poldark series used the first 4 of Graham's books - he then wrote 3 more which were made into a second series. He wrote several more after that and attempts were made to adapt them much later, but with different actors. Unlike the first two series this last one wasn't a success.
Poldark took its title from the surname of a fictional mining family living in Cornwall in the late 18th century. The main character, Ross Poldark, owns copper and silver mines and the background to the series is the life of a mining community. The series became so famous that even today the 'Poldark mine' that was used for the filming is a major tourist attraction in Cornwall.
