La Masia is a country house next to FC Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium that was built in 1702. The building has been used for different purposes during the XX century (workshop for architects of the Camp Nou, main headquarters of the club) but it wasn't until 1979 that president Josep LLuis Nunez inaugurated the building as a residence for recurited young players.

The building plays a very important role in FC Barcelona's idiosincrasy as it embodies all the values upheld by FC Barcelona: friendship, solidarity, hardwork, humility and excellence. Fabulous football players like Andres Iniesta recall their experience as a newcomer to La Masia as a period of suffering (he was away from his family at the age of 12) but also as a period of companionship, learning and education.

In La Masia football players must show that they can perform well at school as well as in the football pitch as one of the aims of the institution is not only to teach young players how to excel playing football but also to become educated and responsible citizens.
