Is it a common practice to leave a tip in Norway?

There is no actual need to leave tips in Norway as a service charge is always included in restaurants etc. However, Norwegians do typically leave a tip to say thank you for good service. The usual thing is to make up the bill to the next round number; this is also the habit in Germany, but in Germany you normally tell the waiter how much you are paying/how much change you want, whereas in Norway it is more popular to leave enough coins to round up the bill. If you do leave a tip, it is usually smaller than you would give in the US or UK.

Apart from restaurants and bars, tipping is rare. Hotel cleaners and other service workers don't usually expect a tip, though you can give a taxi driver a rounded up tip similar to what you would give in a restaurant.

It is also important in Norway to be polite and quiet - shouting is frowned upon.
