Venus Williams won the first Wimbledon title of her career in 2000. This was also her first career Grand Slam she had won. From then through the 2001 US Open, Venus won four (2 Wimbledon, 2 US Open) of the six Grand Slam singles tournaments held.

Venus was only 20 at the time she defeated the then defending champion Lindsay Davenport 6-3 7-6 in the final.
