Woody Allen has won three Oscars outright and one jointly with another screenwriter. The first was Best Director for Annie Hall in 1977, in which he also starred along with Diane Keaton, who won the Best Actress Award. The producer also won an Oscar, as did Allen again together with co-screenwriter Marshall Brickman. So in total the film won four Oscars, and is still seen as one of the great comedies of the 1970s.

After that his third Oscar (or second in his own right) was 10 years later, for Best Original Screenplay for Hannah and Her Sisters, again starring Allen himself along with his then wife, Mia Farrow, Michael Caine and Dianne West (Caine and West also won awards for that film, and the producer won Best Picture).

For the next 25 years Allen won no more Oscars, though he has been nominated more often than any other director and received many other awards. Then in 2012 he won his fourth award, and third for best screenplay, with Midnight in Paris.
