Despite the fact that thousand of Westerns have been produced since the invention of cinematography only 3 have won the Oscar to the Best Picture. These films are:
-'Cimarron' (1931).
Based upon a novel by Edna Ferber, 'Cimarron' tells the story of Yancey Cravat, a newspaper editor, who moves with his family to the boom town of Osage in Oklahoma. He becomes a leading figure in the town but leaves his family behind to go to the Cherokee Strip. While he is away, his wife Sabra has struggle to survive but later becomes an emblematic figure in Osage.
