One of the birds that comes to our minds when we think of flihtless birds is the kiwi from New Zealand. The kiwi is a small, black-feathered bird with a long beak but with no wings. So, most of its movements consist of walking on its two little legs. The kiwi is an endemic species to New Zealand and is very rare to see.

But there are many other birds that can't fly. For instance, in South America there is the common rhea, which resembles an ostrich. In Australia we find the emu, an animal of totemic importance for Indigenous Australians, and also similar to an ostrich. Also, the different species of penguins are also considered birds that cannot fly.
