There are some horrible comments all right, in fact there is even a special Facebook page for people who hate them! Things have now got so bad that Zayn Malik has left Twiiter, apparently because he is tired of abusive comments.

This kind of thing has happened to quite a lot of celebrities, so it's not just about them - online bullying is getting worse and worse, and in fact most people in the public eye get a certain number of nasty comments. Did this happen to the Beatles? A lot of it couldn't, partly because it wasn't so easy to make vicious comments, quickly and anonymously - the online bullies mostly know that they will never be caught. Also, in those days there wasn't such a celebrity culture - the public felt more admiration for famous people. The Beatles' main problem was that their fans wouldn't leave them alone.

There is another side to this though - a lot of people are sick of the manufactured music that comes off shows like the X Factor, and some of the comments are about the quality of the music - it's not all abuse.
