Anders Breivik killed a total of 76 people on 22 July 2011, in two separate attacks. He has stated that the attacks were an act of war, mainly on what he calls the evil of multiculturalism. He has written an extremely long document which claims to explain his actions; however, most of this is a collection of rants copied from other far-right internet users, and contains complaints about liberalism, feminism and most other 'modern' movements.

Psychiatrists can't agree about whether Breivik is sane enough to be judged responsible for his actions. He certainly seems to have many delusions - for example, he claimed to be a member of a secret, Knights Templar style organization, and it seems that he actually believed this, but the organization turned out not to exist. As his trial progresses, more will be known about how his obsessions started. What is certain is that he feels no remorse for the Utoya Island attack ; he believes that his teenage victims deserved to die because they supported multiculturalism. I would have thought he has shown ample evidence that he is insane, but of course the legal definition of insanity is more complicated.
