There is ample biological and medicinal evidence that the art of nap has health benefits, not only for Spaniards, but also for all human beings in general. Research shows that human beings need two periods of rest every 24 hours to recover energy loss and productivity.

Actually, it is very recommendable to have a 20 minutes-long nap in the afternoon and not longer than that, which could be counterproductive! By having a 20 minute nap every day, alertness and concentration are reactivated, which prevents accidents and improves productivity.

Also, and more importantly, evidence shows that "siesta" reduces the risk of heart disease by a third and alleviates stress.
