There are 4 forces acting on the car when you push a car.

  1. Pushing force by you. The direction is forward.
  2. Friction force between the car and the road surface. The direction is backward.
  3. Gravitational force (or simply weight of the car) that is the pull of the Earth. The direction is downward.
  4. Normal reaction force by the road surface that stop the car from being pulled into the Earth. The direction is upward. The word normal means acting at 90o to the road surface.
