Question

How can I finish reading a book within a week or so? Why does it take me forever to read? How can I get motivated to pick the book up?

The first thing is to choose your book carefully. Look for something which is about your interests or is in a genre that you like. And if you aren't in the habit of reading it's probably best to go for something very light, popular fiction for instance - a thriller, horror story, romance, whatever is your style. You could ask friends to recommend a book that they couldn't put down, or even look at the bestseller lists. And it may sound obvious, but best avoid anything too long! In fact, you could try looking for a novella (short stories can be very intense, but novellas are often easier to read).

You can also help get started by setting yourself some targets. If you promise to read, say, 20 pages a day, you will get through a book in a couple of weeks or less, and it can also be helpful to read along with friends. You could look to see if your local library has any book clubs, or even start one yourself - talkling about what you've read makes it much more interesting.
