The main Rome airports are Fiumicino and Ciampino. Fiumicino full name is Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino) is the biggest Rome airport and is under 20 miles from the city centre. Ciampino is mainly used by budget airlines but is closer to the city centre - about 10 miles. Both airports are easy to reach from the centre. From Fiumicino there is a train about every 30 minutes, as well as various bus and car hire options. You can take the Metro direct from Ciampino. It's also possible to go by taxi, which will cost about 40 euros from the larger airport and 30 from the smaller one.

It is advisable to book your transfer in advance, especially if you are going by taxi, because Rome, like many other big cities, has a lot of unlicensed cab drivers who will often charge unfair rates. If you book a taxi transfer at the same time as your flight, you should have no problems.
