Nikola Tesla was a Croatia-born serbian electrical and mechanical engineer, physicist and inventor that revolutionised science with his original research and discoveries. But what was exactly his contribution to science and technology?

His main creation was the polyphase generator. This is crucial because the polyphase generator allows the emergence of alternate current mostly used today across the world. Alternate current challenged Edison's model of direct current that could not reach long distances without a big loss of energy. This was called the war of the currents and drove Edison and Tesla into fierce competition for the hegemony in power systems.

Alternating current changes direction up to 60 times per second and can resist high voltage levels than direct current and therefore can travel much longer distances easily.
