*minor spoiler alert*

Skyfall is the name of a Scottish Lodge and the title of the 2012 James Bond movie.

The film takes its name from Bond's childhood home, Skyfall Lodge, a house in a remote part of Scotland which is now empty except for the old caretaker and gamekeeper, Kincade. Bond takes M there, and he and Kincade use an underground tunnel in the house to foil the villains - I won't say any more in case you haven't seen it!

A lodge was built, and destroyed, specially for the film. It was constructed in the home county of Surrey, much more convenient for the actors and film crew than Scotland! You can learn more about this here.

As well as Surrey, parts of Skyfall were also shot in Scotland, England, China, Japan and Turkey. A number of other locations were also looked at, notably in South Africa, but were not selected. A notable location was Hashima Island, looking like an abandoned post nuclear town, it is coincidentally located near and administrated by the city of Nagasaki, and although unpopulated has only been so since 1974.

Skyfall went on general release in the UK on the 26th October, 2012 after premiering on the 23rd of the same month. In the US Skyfall went on general release on the 9th November 2012. Further release dates are available here.
