The earliest use of music for astronauts was in 1965, when those on the Gemini VI mission were woken up by the song 'Hello Dolly' in the mornings, sent from the Nasa base. The tradition of wake up music still continues; in fact lately the public have been asked to vote on their favourite music to play in the wake-up call. 'Sunrise No. 1' by Stormy Mondays won the first competition (with the Star Trek theme in second place).

If you click here you can download a PDF of every wake-up song that has ever been played to astronauts in space, including the Apollo mission. It seems they play this music even for robot missions, though I wonder why?

Nowadays astronauts are able to take their iPods with them and listen to pretty much what they like - I don't think any lists have been released of what they choose to listen to now, though.
