The original Magna Carta (also called The Great Charter of the Liberties of England or Magna Carta Libertatum) was issued in Latin in 1215 to limit the powers of the King John of England. Among the sixty three clauses in the 1215 copy of the Magna Carta, three of them are still valid:

  • The liberties of the English Church (Clause 1)
  • The privileges of the City of London (Clause 13)
  • The right to trial by jury (Clauses 39 & 40)
