At the age of four, Maria Sharapova got her first tennis racquet, which was a gift from her father's friend Aleksandr Kafelnikov. Aleksandr is the father of Yevgeny Kafelnikov who is the first Number One world-ranked tennis player in Russia.

Maria started to practice tennis with her father after she got the racquet, and then she took lessons with Yuri Yutkin who is a veteran tennis coach from Russia.

Sharapova attended a tennis clinic in Moscow at the age of seven, and then soon she moved to America with her dad to get better training. At the age of 9, she enrolled to the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy in Florida.

Maria completed her career Grand Slam by winning Wimbledon in 2004, US Open in 2006, Australia Open in 2008 and French Open in 2012.
