According to Amnesty International, 676 people were executed in 20 countries (except China of which there is no official data) in 2011 and 18750 were sentenced.

Although there have been improvements in some countries like China and the United States and the number of countries who use death penalty has decreased in the last 10 years, still the situation is far from good.

On top of the list is Iran with 360 executions in the last year, Saudi Arabia with 82, Irak with 68 and 43 in the United States.
