The island of Guam is located southwest of the Mariana Islands in the Pacific Ocean. Particularly, the island can be found off the coast of the Philippines and Papua New Guinea.

The island belongs to the USA (its status is described as unincorporated territory) and has a long history of occupation since the Chamorro peoples occupied the island around 4,000 years ago. Since then it has been occupied by the Spanish, the American and the Japanese due to its strategic position in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
