The main purpose of having a pet insurance is to cover the cost of vet fees when your dog is ill or injured. As we all know, vet fees can be very expensive especially when your dog needs a surgery or routine treatment.

In the UK, on average dog owners are paying £28 a month on pet insurance for their dogs. However, it can cost more if you want a premium cover for your elderly dog. Some insurance companies do not cover dogs that are older than 10 years.

The best thing to start is to think what kind of cover that you want to get for your dog. The pet insurance policy can be divided into four main types: Lifetime, Maximum benefit, Time limited and Accident only. Once you figure the type of the policy you want, you can go to price comparison site such as gocompare.com to shopping around to find the best deal.
