Today (June 14th 2012), Elinor Ostrom, the first woman to have been awarded the Nobel prize in economic sciences in 2009, passed away at 78, after a long battle with cancer.

Olstrom was a particularly unorthodox economist as she challenged many of the myths of neoliberalism, defending communal economic management over profits. She will rest in peace.
