The first Grand Lodge founded on 24th June 1717 is considered to be the first organized Freemasonry. It took place at the Goose and Gridiron Ale House in St Paul's Churchyard.

It is believed by many historians that Freemansonry was developed by stonemasons who built castles and cathedrals. Those stonemasons used to gather together in huts or lodgets to rest, eat and discuss things.
