The film The Hobbit, based in the 1937 novel of the same name by J.R.R. Tolkien, and directed by Peter Jackson has been filmed almost entirely in New Zealand with the exception of some scenes that were shot in England.
The filming in New Zealand took place mostly at Stone Street Studios at Wellington while in England the sets were built at Pinewood Studios, Iver Heath, Buckinghamshire.
