George Lucas said in January 2012 that he would not be making any more blockbusters such as his Star Wars films. He said later in the year that he would rather give his time to experimental projects and films that interest him personally, without worrying about their commercial appeal. This may be linked to the fact that he had problems getting funding for his latest movie, Red Tails, and had to pay for it himself in the end.

Lucas' company, Lucas film, will now be run jointly by producer Kathleen Kennedy, and she will later take over the whole company as Lucas steps down from it. Kennedy up to now has mostly worked with Steven Spielberg, so fans are wondering whether she will still also be working with him in the future. However, as Lucas, Spielberg and Kennedy are all old friends, it is likely that we will see them all working together in the future.
