Based on the level of respect or formality, you can say "What's this?" in Korean in 3 ways:

  • Informal: i-ge mwo-ya? (이게 뭐야?), i-ge mwo-ni? (이게 뭐니?)
  • Formal: i-ge mwo-yeyo? (이게 뭐예요?), i-ge mueot-ipnigga? (이게 무엇입니까?)
  • Very Formal: i-geot-i mueot-ipnigga? (이것이 무엇입니까?)

- what: mueot (무엇), mwo (뭐)
- this (subjective): i-geot-i (이것이), i-ge (이게)
