The esophageal cancer is the abnormal growth of cells in the esophagus.
The most common location for cancer to develop in the esophagus is at the gastro-esophageal junction, i.e. the bottom of the esophagus where it joins the stomach.
Esophageal cancer can be divided into two main types: squamous cell carcinoma and adenocarcinoma. The former arise in the cells that line the esophagus while the later arises in the galndular cells of the esophagus.
